Recall of Mitomycin-C

13 November 2019

Please know that if you have already received Mitomycin-C treatment, it was safe and effective.

One of the treatments for Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC) is intravesical Mitomycin-C. With intravesical therapy, the doctor puts the liquid drug right into your bladder rather than giving it by mouth or injecting it into your blood.

In the UK, the major supplier of Mitomycin-C is Kyowa Kirin. Kyowa Kirin has announced a recall of Mitomycin-C, and will be unable to supply any Mitomycin-C to the UK for the next 12 months. The only other licensed supplier of Mitomycin-C in the UK is Medac. However, Medac only have sufficient supplies to meet the requirements of their current customers.

There are also other treatment options available for Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer. Your doctor will be able to recommend the best treatment for you. For example, the treatments BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin), epirubicin or gemcitabine might be suitable for you
